In a physical match in which chances were few and far between, it wasn’t until the 75th minute when either Santa Clara Sporting or the Folsom Lake Earthquakes garnered a clear chance on goal as Santa Clara’s Angel Avalos Guzman flashed a close-range header just wide of the goal. Three minutes later, Sporting finally broke through when clever attacker Jay Houston beat three defenders and was taken out by the Folsom goalkeeper to earn a penalty. Center back Harrison Kepp then stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way for the only goal of a match in which the Earthquakes failed to register a shot on goal.
