U16 Girls NPL Fall Showcase Recap

NPL 1 EAST

Division Winner

FC Elk Grove

Champions League Qualifiers

FC Elk Grove, San Juan, Placer United, Central California Soccer Alliance

With FC Elk Grove (21 points) having already locked up a Champions League spot heading into the weekend, there was an intense battle for the final three spots from four teams in the NPL 1 East. San Juan Spirits (16 points) essentially locked up a berth Saturday thanks to a 2-1 upset of Elk Grove, but there was still much to play for as Placer United (15 points), Central California Soccer Alliance (12 points), and the Folsom Lake Earthquakes (12 points) all remained in contention. After Placer and CCSA played to a scoreless draw Saturday, Folsom had the chance to clinch a spot with a win, but drew Diablo FC on Sunday to lose out on tiebreakers, while Placer defeated Sacramento United 2-0 and CCSA topped Mustang 1-0.

NPL 1 WEST

Division Winner

Marin FC

Champions League Qualifiers Teams

Marin FC, EBU Bay Oaks Mavericks, Vision Academy, MVLA City

Coming into the weekend, Marin FC (20 points) had all-but assured themselves the league title and had already qualified for the Champions League. The only side that stood a chance at claiming the title was Vision (14 points), who needed wins on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to do so. After Vision dropped a 2-1 result to Mustang on Friday, the title was Marin’s, and Vision still had work to do to qualify for the spring’s top division. They did so, beating Santa Clara Sporting 2-0 on Saturday and playing Marin to a scoreless draw on Sunday. Also qualifying were second-place EBU Bay Oaks (15 points), who won both of their games on the weekend, and MVLA, who dropped their only game of the weekend to Mustang.

NPL 2 EAST

Division Winner

South Tahoe FC

This division was all about the double weekend matchup between South Tahoe FC and California Odyssey, who played each other on both Saturday and Sunday in a battle for the league title and the only spring NPL 1 berth that came with it. South Tahoe showed their mettle, defeating Odyssey 2-1 on Saturday and drawing them 1-1 on Sunday to finish with 18 points. Meanwhile, 15-point Odyssey earned the only NPL 2 berth by finishing one point ahead of third-place IR Academy.

NPL 2 WEST

Division Winner

West Coast Warriors

All season in the NPL 2 West, no side could stop the West Coast Soccer Warriors, who again showed their quality in the College Showcase. Thanks to a 3-1 win over California Thorns Saturday and a 4-1 victory over EBU Bay Oaks Sunday, West Coast topped the division with 23 points and earned the only NPL 1 spot that came with it. Meanwhile, the three NPL 2 spots to be garnered in the division went to Impact (16 points), Livermore Fusion (15 points), and SF Elite (15 points).
