U16 Boys 2019 NorCal State Cup Quarterfinals Recap

U16 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL A
4/27MCS ECFC
2-1
Force North NPL
Despite being several leagues below Force North, MCS ECFC United scored late in both halves of the game to down Force North via a 2-1 scoreline. Wearing No. 100, Yossimar Tapia-Hernandez did the damage for MCS, hitting the back of the net in the 34th and 86th minutes to cancel out a Jason Lamprecht strike in the 78th minute.
U16 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL B
4/27Union Sacramento
1-1
(PK's)
Turlock Academica
Despite being much lower in the Champions League table than Union Sacramento, Turlock Academica not only came back in this State Cup quarterfinal, but won the tie on kicks from the mark to move into the semifinals. Christian Comparan opened the scoring for Union in just the 26th minute of the match before Xavier Barajas managed to somehow get on the end of a goal line scramble to level the game that was eventually decided by penalties in favor of Academica.
U16 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL C
4/27EBU Bay Oaks Gold
0-1
Heritage SC
This matchup of NPL 1 teams between Heritage SC and East Bay United saw the former come out as the stronger team against the latter. Heritage hit the crossbar early, perhaps shaking the confidence of EBU. But the damage was really done in the 19th minute when Heritage scored through Yovani Villa Gorgonio, which turned out to be the only tally of the match.
U16 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL D
4/27Napa Soccer Academy
1-1
(PK's)
SF Glens Evolution
After playing to a 1-1 draw earlier this month in Champions League action, Napa Soccer Academy and SF Glens again hit the exact same scoreline, but given that this was a knockout game, there had to be a winner. After the Glens scored in the 27th minute through Pierre Lesperance and Napa equalized in the 71st minute via a goal from Gerado Perez, the game went to overtime and then kicks from the mark. It took nine rounds to decide a winner, but ultimately Napa came on top to earn a berth in the semifinals.
