U15-U19 State Cup Semifinals Recap

Just one weekend of play remains in the NorCal State Cup as semifinal action in the U15-U19 age groups concluded Saturday at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex and Salinas Regional Soccer Complex.
Only two teams remain in each division with Finals Weekend scheduled for May 30 and 31 at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.
“This past weekend was filled with exciting action among the teams fighting to make it to Finals Weekend–the semifinal round is always one of the most competitive and intense rounds in the competition and it was great to see teams give it their all for the opportunity to fight another day,” said NorCal State Cup Coordinator Brian Voltattorni. “Those who advanced are playing to make memories that they will cherish forever.”

Overall, 82 teams remain in the competition, with 41 different titles up for grabs. Each winner and finalist will earn the opportunity to be recognized on the stage at Cosumnes River College during Finals Weekend.
In the State Division, NorCal Premier Soccer’s highest level of play, just 16 teams are left to fight for eight titles.
Those who come out victorious will earn the right to call themselves NorCal’s true State Cup champions as well as garnering a berth in the US Club Soccer National Cup, which will take place this July in Denver.
Overall, 14 clubs will be represented in the State Division finals, with Bay Area Surf and Reno APEX leading the way with two teams each.
Additionally, Clovis Crossfire, Elk Grove United, IR Academy, Monterey Surf, Mustang SC, Pleasanton RAGE, Revolution FC, Richmond Sol, SF Aftershocks, South Valley Chivas, Union Sacramento, and Walnut Creek Surf each have one team in a final.

The competition began all the way back in August, where teams played a club-hosted, three-game group stage against other teams before being seeded into the knockout stages based on how they finished.
For teams to make Finals Weekend, they had to win at least three matches throughout the spring, with many divisions requiring four victories to reach that stage.
“Every team that’s still alive should be proud of themselves–they’ve all dug deep and produced incredible campaigns despite the long season,” Voltattorni said. “We want to congratulate every team who advanced this far and thank every team, player, coach, and parent who participated in this event and helped make it into one of the premier knockout competitions in the country.”
