Some teams just have a certain air about them, as if no matter what the circumstances, they just can’t lose. This Lamorinda United side certainly falls into that category. After winning the NPL Champions League with a perfect 7-0-0 record, they were pushed to the brink of elimination in the semifinal round. Tied 2-2 late, and down their starting goalkeeper, reserve field player Luke Ahearn stepped in between the pipes to save a penalty in overtime, and then one in the shootout, putting Lamorinda in the final. Their opponents in Turlock Tornados come in as the clear underdog as the fifth-place squad in the NPL 1. But Turlock too will be tough outs as their cup form has seen them win by one-goal margins three rounds in a row. |
