U13/U14 State Cup Quarterfinals, Semifinals This Weekend

While all the younger age groups have now completed their State Cup campaigns, the U13 and U14 age groups are back in action this weekend as the quarterfinals and semifinals are set to take place this Saturday and Sunday at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex and Turlock Regional Sports Park.

Overall, 240 teams are still involved across 30 divisions, with each team knowing that their next loss will coincide with their elimination from the competition.

“These next few weekends are the culmination of eight months of games, which were continued through the winter as neither of these age groups have high school breaks,” said NorCal State Cup Commissioner Brian Voltattorni. “It’s great to see all the action in both age groups–for the U13s, it’s their first year on the bigger field, while the U14s have fully adjusted to 11v11.”

The teams that win both of their matches this weekend will qualify for the final in their particular division, all of which are set to kick off on April 26 at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.

The U13/U14 NorCal State Cup began all the way back in August with each team participating in a three-game group stage against similarly skilled opponents. From there, each team was re-seeded into a knockout round bracket, with most requiring two wins to make it to the quarterfinals.

This is the second year in which NorCal has separated the U13 and U14 divisions and moved up their calendar to take advantage of the fact that there aren’t any winter conflicts for most teams.

At the U15-U19 ages, the action will continue at NorCal-hosted sites with the quarterfinal round coming the same weekend the U13 and U14 teams finish.

Overall, the NorCal State Cup will conclude with Finals Weekend, scheduled for May 30 and 31 at Cosumnes River College.
