Super Rec League Kicks Off This Weekend

This weekend, the fifth season of NorCal Premier Soccer’s Super Rec League kicks off, with nearly 200 matches in 47 divisions scheduled to take place in Regions 2, 3/4, 5, and 6.

Formed to bridge the gap between recreational and competitive play, NorCal’s Super Rec season features 363 teams from the U14-U19 age groups, each of whom will participate in an eight week season.

“Super Rec offers a bridge between recreational and competitive programming at the U14-U19 age groups,” said NorCal Grassroots Development Manager Andrew Taylor. “Unfortunately there aren’t a lot of options out there for kids who want to remain in the game but participate outside of the competitive arena.”

“We want to keep these kids in the game, playing soccer for longer,” Taylor added. “The ultimate goal is that each player starts and finishes their whole career with their club no matter the level of play.”

During the season, each team will play eight matches within their region, with the age ranges split into U14, U16, and U19 groupings.

While the season culminates with the final matchday on November 7 and 8, Halloween Weekend brings NorCal’s popular recreational cup tournament, the Super Rec Cup, which will be played October 31 and November 1 for U14-U19 teams.

Though many who play in the Super Rec League will participate in this competition, the Super Rec Cup is open to recreational teams from any league and will feature multiple levels of play.

NorCal will also host a U9-U12 Super Rec Cup October 14 and 15 at Cherry Island Soccer Complex and Granite Regional Park in Sacramento.

“We’re trying to reach all areas of Northern California with our Super Rec programming,” Taylor said. “The addition of region 5 last year was a huge positive and we’re looking to hopefully expand even further to keep more kids involved with the game that we all know and love.”
