Spring College Showcase Recap

Nearly 100 college coaches traveled to Davis this past weekend as the NorCal Spring College Showcase took place at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.
In an event that serves as one of the marquee situations for players to get recruited to colleges from all levels all across the country, hundreds of matches were played including friendlies, league games, the knockout stages of the inaugural League Cup.

“The showcase provided another great weekend of competitive soccer in which our players from Northern California were able to put their talent on display in front of dozens of interested college coaches,” said NorCal ECNL RL Coordinator Kelcey Chaidez. “The NorCal College Showcase continues to be the prime event in Northern California that drives college recruitment.”
Once again, the Friday night ID Camp kicked off the weekend, where players had the opportunity to train in sessions run by college coaches from a selection of some of the top DI—NAIA programs in Northern California.
Part of the event also included the conclusion of several NorCal competitions, including the NPL and the ECNL RL, as well as the finale of the first-ever NorCal League Cup.
A competition that pits teams from all leagues in Northern California against each other, the League Cup proved to be competitive in its debut season. Overall, eight different clubs claimed titles, with those who participated in the ECNL RL leading the way with six victories. The ECNL and NPL each also had one victorious team in the competition.

Those who took home League Cup trophies included Albion SC Central Valley, FC Fresno, Folsom Lake Surf, Los Gatos United, Revolution FC, Santa Rosa United, Union Sacramento, and Walnut Creek Surf.
“The first year of the League Cup was a resounding success that allowed for competitive matches between teams who wouldn’t normally be able to play each other unless they scheduled preseason friendlies,” Chaidez said. “We look forward to continuing the competition while tweaking a few things here and there to make sure that it only improves for what we expect to be an excellent sophomore outing.”

Additionally, several ECNL RL teams were given the chance to celebrate on the NorCal stage for winning the yearlong competition that serves as NorCal’s highest level of play.
“Because most leagues are won during club-hosted matches, we don’t often get the opportunity to recognize our victorious squads at a central location in front of a crowd of people,” Chaidez said. “The Showcase provides that opportunity and gives the kids, players, and coaches a chance to celebrate memories that they will cherish forever.”
