Preview: U13/U14 State Cup Quarterfinals
After two rounds of knockout play at club-hosted venues, the U13 and U14 NorCal Premier Soccer State Cup continues this weekend with quarterfinal and semifinal matchups at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex and Turlock Sports Park.
Over the course of the two days, each team will be looking to punch their ticket to Finals Weekend, scheduled for April 27 at Davis Legacy.
“The U13 and U14 divisions have seen some great play in the elimination stages so far and we’re expecting that to continue as the competition progresses this weekend,” said NorCal State Cup Coordinator Brian Voltattorni. “Saturday and Sunday will be another celebration of the beautiful game featuring some of the best teams from around the state.”
This is the first year that NorCal has concluded the State Cup campaigns of the two youngest 11v11 age groups together in April–previously the U13 teams were grouped with U11 and U12 sides and finished in February, while the U14s played their final matches at the same time as the U15-U19 squads.
“After working with club leadership and NorCal’s competition staff, we adjusted the U13 and U14 calendar to a timeline that better fits the needs of our member clubs, teams and players,” Voltattorni said.
The competition began all the way back in the fall with a group stage featuring three different games that seeded teams into their knockout round brackets.
From there, most teams entered the round of 32, with those still alive for this weekend winning matches in both that round and the round of 16.
Overall there are 27 different divisions still up for grabs, with those who claim the State Division titles earning the right to call themselves NorCal State Cup Champions.
