NPL Weekly: September 15th-16th Recap

Goals, goals, and more goals. That was the theme of the week in NPL action, as teams all across the state hit the back of the net in great numbers as clubs attempted to cement their status at or near the top of their respective tables. Here are your game of the week recaps.

U15 Boys NPL 1

Red Star 5 – Santa Rosa United 3

Red Star Goals: Baptista 5
SRU Goals: Dimauro 2, Ponte

Attempting an early defense of their NPL championship, Red Star faced a stiff test in Santa Rosa United, who entered the weekend with one win from one game and four goals scored. In what was a wild match, Red Star scored first, with Diogo Baptista hitting the back of the net twice in the opening 12 minutes, only for a Gianluca Dimauro brace and Drayden Ponte strike to give Santa Rosa a 3-2 lead. But it was Baptista who would have the final say, scoring three more goals to give Red Star a 5-3 victory and improve his squad’s record to 3-0-0 on the season.

U15 Girls Champions League

Barcelona Bay Area 0 – San Juan SC Spirits 1

San Juan Goal: Halah Elbeshity

It may have taken nearly the entire game to do so, but San Juan SC Spirits continued their perfect start to the season with a 1-0 victory over Barcelona Bay Area Saturday. As the game looked to be headed to a scoreless draw, San Juan’s Halah Elbeshity scored with two minutes remaining to give the Spirits the breakthrough they needed to improve to 3-0-0 on the season.


U19 Boys NPL 1 West

SJ Earthquakes 0 – Atletico Santa Rosa 3

Atletico Goals: Own Goal, Vargas, Batchelder

In what was a double-fixture weekend for Atletico Santa Rosa, the now-top-of-the-table side displayed their dominance in the NPL 1 West with aa 3-0 victory over the SJ Earthquakes Sunday. Just 13 minutes into the game, Atletico got the eventual game winner through an own goal before Victor Vargas doubled the visitor’s lead in the 32nd minute. While the Earthquakes attempted to get back into the match, Santa Rosa ended all competitive aspects of it 23 minutes before time as Zach Batchelder struck for the third and final goal of the day.


 U14 Girls Champions League

Marin FC 1 – Pleasanton Rage 1

Marin Goal: Swindle
Rage Goal: Kenny

For a squad in Pleasanton Rage that had only slipped up once in five games coming into this past weekend, it faced something. of an unknown in a Marin FC side that had played just two games. And Marin FC scored first, with Chloe Swindle striking in the 29th minute to give Marin a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime. But 13 minutes after the. break, Lauren Kenny equalized for Pleasanton, ensuring that the Rage would remain atop the table with a 4-1-1 record.
