NPL Weekly: November 16-17 Recap

Though there is a reduced schedule of games this weekend, the November 16-17 mach schedule of NPL represents the last chance for teams to garner points before the following weekend’s Fall College Showcase. Those that are in action this weekend will look to pick up the best results possible in order to put them in a good position before they play in front of the watching eyes of a plethora of college coaches. With a possible place in the Champions League on the line, Sacramento United came out of the gate on the front foot this past weekend in a local derby against San Juan SC. Just five minutes into the game, James Manns hit the back of the net before Christopher Myers doubled the lead for the visitors of of a well-taken free kick. United then hit the woodwork twice while creating a plethora of chances and leaving San Juan lucky to go into halftime only down by a pair of strikes. But the second half was a different story as the hosts scored twice through Dominic Vegaalbaan, only for Andrew Nelson of Sacramento to strike in stoppage time for a dramatic victory.

West Coast Soccer 2 – San Francisco Elite 1

San Francisco: Grove

Needing the full three points to get bak in the thick of things with league leading San Juan SC and PSV Union, West Coast Soccer narrowly edged San Francisco Elite via a 2-1 scoreline to bolster their case for a top position in the table. Kaya Scott was the hero for the hosts on the day, scoring a brace to cancel out a solitary strike from Elite’s Keeley Grove.
