NPL Weekly: April 6-7 Recap

With just over a month remaining in the season, NPL teams need points now as much as ever as a full slate of action took place this past weekend. In a goal-filled fixture list, several teams jumped back into title races while others bowed out ahead of the culmination of league play: next month’s NPL College Showcase in Davis.

NPL SCHEDULES AND RESULTS: Boys, Girls

Here are your game of the week recaps:

NPL MATCHDAY — U15 Girls Champions League

Marin FC 1 – MVLA 1

Goals: Marin: Summers

MVLA: Steadman

With two sides near the top of the table meeting, Marin FC and MVLA played to a 1-1 draw this past weekend. The hosts were everywhere in the opening part of the game and were finally rewarded for their constant pressure early when Lauren Summers redirected a corner kick into the back of the net to put Marin up 1-0. And though they held that lead at the break, MVLA’s Mia Steadman equalized the score just after halftime with a long-range strike that ensured that the teams would share the points.

Sporting: Moreno, Oregel, Alvarenga, Martinez

In one of the wildest games of the weekend Davis Legacy led FC Sporting Munich 3-1 early in the second half thanks to goals from Simon Vaca-Lorenzi, Noel Gutierrez Gonzalez, and Andrew Yang. Still, the hosts fought hard and were rewarded with a late goal from Braydon Medlin, giving each team one point for their efforts.

U17 Girls NPL 1

West Coast Soccer 1 – Players North 1

Goals: West Coast: Del Prado

Players North: West

Coming into this game having not dropped points all season, Players North traveled to West Coast Soccer to attempt to make it a perfect 9-0. And though North took the lead after Taya West poked home a ball in a scrum, West Coast clawed back, scoring through Maddie Del Prado, who took a cross from Jaden Hall and made no mistake to give both squads a share of the points.

U15 Boys Champions League

Tahuichi FC  1 – Santa Rosa United 2

Goals: Santa Rosa: Ponte, Dimauro

Tahuichi: Espinoza

In this North Bay derby, visitors Santa Rosa United took an early lead over Tahuichi FC after Drayden Ponte finished off a 10-pass sequence. But Dominic Espinoza pulled things level for Tahuichi early in the second half, only for Ponte to cement his man-of-the-match status by setting up Gianluca Dimauro’s late winner.
