NPL Matchday #9 Preview

While a few teams across the state have already claimed titles in the competition, many more are still fighting for that top spot in the NPL, and others now find themselves in relegation battles. The most critical stages of the NPL are now upon us and this weekend marks another chance to earn an imperative three points.

Here are your NPL games of the week:

U15 Girls NPL 1 East

10/23: San Juan SC – Clovis Crossfire 1:00 p.m. @ San Juan Soccer Club — White

San Juan SC have played just two games so far in the U15 Girls NPL 1 East, and though they’ve won both, they still have to make up a ton of ground on 4-0-0 IR Academy. With a game against IR Friday and a matchup against Clovis Crossfire Saturday, San Juan could top the table this weekend. Looking to stop them will be Crossfire, who currently sit at the bottom of the table but have been tough outs for every team they’ve played so far.

U15 Boys NPL South

10/24: Sunnyvale Alliance – Monterey County Soccer Club 11:00 a.m. @ Sunnyvale Soccer Complex #4

So far in the U15 Boys NPL South, no one has been able to stop Monterey County Soccer Club, who lead the table with a perfect 21 points from seven games and a plus-19 goal differential. However, despite having just two matches left, MCS haven’t clinched the title yet. They could this weekend in Sunnyvale against the Alliance, but it will prove to be tough — Sunnyvale sit in second place with 13 points from five games. Should Monterey win, they’ll take the division with a game left, but an Alliance win will ensure that the title race lasts at least another week.

U19 Boys NPL East

10/24: Diablo Valley Wolves – California Odyssey 12:00 p.m. @ Ygnacio Valley High School

California Odyssey have been almost perfect in the U19 Boys NPL East so far, garnering 15 points from five games while scoring an incredible 27 goals. However, fifth-place Diablo Valley Wolves sit just six points behind and have played one fewer game. Should Diablo win this weekend at home, it could potentially open up the title race to as many as five teams in a division in which every team has lost at least once.

U16 Girls NPL 1 West

10/24: San Francisco Elite – Pleasanton RAGE 12:30 p.m. @ Crocker Amazon Fields #3

In a division in which every team has dropped points at least once, as many four teams remain in the title race in the U16 Girls NPL 1 West. One of those teams is San Francisco Elite, who sit two points off the mark and have gathered 12 points from seven games. Though they currently sit in third, a win over sixth-place Pleasanton RAGE could see them go top of the table with one game remaining.
