NPL Matchday #8 Recap

The weather may be getting cooler now that it’s fall, but the NPL is still heating up as matchday #8 begins this weekend all across the state. There’s only about a month left in the season, meaning it’s now or never to pick up points for those looking to rise to the top of their respective division’s tables.

Here are your NPL games of the week:

U19 Girls NPL 1 East

10/16: Folsom Lake Surf – Blues FC 9:15 a.m. @ Econome Family Park

Three teams sit tied atop the U19 Girls NPL 1 East table: Mustang SC, Davis Legacy, and Blues FC, the latter of which plays a vital home match Saturday against Folsom Lake Surf. While Blues could potentially break the deadlock in first place with a win, Folsom are sitting just four points back and could move to within one of the top with a victory.

U15 Boys NPL North

East Bay United 4 – Association Football Club 2

Goalscorers:

East Bay: Hernandez, Gonzalez, Lukan, Ortiz

Association: Weinmann, Lewis

In a crucial matchup between two of the top teams in the U15 Boys NPL North, East Bay United took the lead in the division thanks to a 4-2 home win over Association Football Club this weekend. U15 Girls NPL 1 East

IR Academy 1 – Walnut Creek Surf 0

Goalscorers:

IR: Villagran

In a matchup between yet-to-be defeated IR Academy and mid-table Walnut Creek Surf, just a solitary strike proved the difference as IR continued their perfect season and now sit on 12 points from just four games. That decisive goal came when Many Fernald whipped in a corner kick that found the head of Janelli Villagran to give Academy a six point lead in the U15 NPL 1 East table.

U19 Boys NPL South

Diablo Valley Wolves 2 – San Francisco Glens 4

Goalscorers:

Diablo Valley: Paden, Rychtecky

San Francisco: Salazar, Burton, Lonergan, Iniguez

In an absolute barnburner of a game, the San Francisco Glens continued their excellent season, defeating the Diablo Valley Wolves 4-2 Saturday to maintain their perfect record in the U19 Boys NPL South. Patrick Zamora Salazar, Henry Burton, Shane Lonergan, and Angel Iniguez all scored for the visitors, who picked up their sixth win in as many tries. Meanwhile, Brian Paden Jr. and Adam Rychtecky scored for the hosts, who fell to fifth place on the season.

U17 Girls NPL 1 East

Diablo Valley Wolves 1 – Clovis Crossfire 1

Goalscorers:

Clovis: Watterson

Diablo Valley: Beeson

In a match between two of the most competitive sides in the U17 Girls NPL 1 East, neither Clovis Crossfire or Diablo Valley Wolves could find a winner after Dakota Watson and Emily Beeson both scored early in the first half of an entertaining match. The result did little for either side in terms of the standings — Clovis stayed in second a full six points behind leaders Davis Legacy while Diablo Valley currently sit in sixth.
