NPL Matchday #6 Recap

The first NPL matchday in October is on the horizon and as always three points are at a premium for teams all across the state. And by this point, most teams have reached the halfway mark of their respective seasons — it’s now or never to hop back in the title race for some sides.

Here are your NPL games of the week:

U14 Girls NPL 1 East

10/2: Stanislaus United – Ajax United 10:00 @ Ballenitas Park

Though they’ve played more games than every other team in the division, perhaps no one has been as impressive as current table-leaders Stanislaus United who have scored 27 goals in six league games, five of which have been victories. Stanislaus currently have a six point lead over second place Placer United, but Placer have three games in hand meaning that it’s imperative that Stanislaus get a good result this weekend in a local derby against Ajax United. United have played just three games so far this season, winning one, but have been competitive in all of them.

U16 Boys NPL South

Turlock Academica Jrs 0 – California Odyssey 3

Goalscorers:

Odyssey: Rodriguez (3)

In a match between the top two sides in the U16 Boys NPL South, California Odyssey took a commanding position in the division by winning their third consecutive game by beating Turlock Academica Jrs 3-0 on the road. Alexander Rodriguez was the hero in this game, scoring three times to ensure that his club would remain at the top of the table.

U17 Girls NPL 1 East

Davis Legacy 2 – San Juan SC 2

Goalscorers:

Davis: Grillione, Silva

San Juan SC: Stewart, own goal

In a matchup between two sides that had yet to drop points on the season, Devis Legacy and San Juan SC split the result down the middle to ensure that both squads earned points, but neither took the full three. Carly Stewart scored first for the visitors, finishing high at the near post before Erica Grillione equalized for Davis. An own goal put San Juan ahead again before a late strike from Molly Silva ensured that Legacy would remain unbeaten and on top of the table with 10 points.

U16 Boys NPL South

10/3: California Odyssey – Association Football Club 10:00 @ Buchanan High School

The top of the U16 Boys NPL South table is packed — the leading five sides are all within one point of each other. Currently topping the standings is Association Football Club, who have ridden a solid defense to garner seven points in three games. Hosting them this weekend will be third-place California Odyssey, who have six points from two games but have scored an incredible 15 goals so far.
