NPL Matchday #2

Last weekend the NPL returned with a truncated schedule of matches that officially opened the 2022-23 NorCal Premier Soccer season. However, this weekend will see the majority of the teams in Northern California’s most competitive league kick off with matches all throughout the state.

Here are your NPL games of the week:

U14 Girls NPL East

Mustang SC 8 – California Magic 0

Goalscorers:

Mustang: Stemler (4), Evans (2), Sloan, Becker

Playing up a year in the U14 Girls NPL East, Mustang SC had a mixed bag of a weekend with a win and a loss, but the victory came in emphatic fashion with an 8-0 result against California Magic. Victoria Stemler scored twice in each half to lead the Danville club to the full three points while Milan Evans hit the back of the net two times in the win. The scoring was rounded out for the hosts with strikes from Emma Sloan and Brooklyn Becker.

U15 Boys NPL East

IR Academy 1 – Diablo Valley Futbol Club 4

Goalscorers:

Diablo: Meraza, Martinez Barajas, Tamayo Jr, Connelly Smith

Coming into their first NPL games of the season, both IR Academy and Diablo Valley Futbol club had a chance to move level with first-place Association Football Club in the U15 Boys NPL East with a victory. Thanks to four first half goals, it was Diablo Valley who accomplished this as Alfonso Meraza put the visitors ahead just five minutes into the match. The scoreline stayed 1-0 until a barrage of goals from the Wolves in the last 10 minutes of the half made it 4-0. Abram Martinez Barajas, Rafael Tamayo Jr, and Dariyon Connelly Smith each scored to put the game out of reach. IR pulled a goal back in the second half but the result had already been secured.

U14 Boys NPL Capitol

Union Sacramento FC 2 – El Dorado Hills Soccer Club 3

Goalscorers:

El Dorado Hills: McGeorge, Gonsalves, Egan

In this U14 Boys NPL Capitol matchup, El Dorado Hills Soccer Club appeared to be sailing smoothly after first half goals from Timothy McGeorge and Max Gonsalves put the visitors ahead 2-0 before the break. Kevin Egan seemingly put the game away in the 70th minute to make it 3-0 before Union mounted a late comeback attempt by hitting the back of the net twice in the next 10 minutes. However EDHSC were able to see the game out and collected all three points as a result.
