NorCal State Cup Semifinals Preview: U17 Boys

U17 BOYS STATE SEMIFINAL A
5/12Sacramento United
1-1
(3-1)
Marin FC Blue
Coming in with Champions League pedigree, Sacramento United were the clear favorites against NPL 3 side Marin FC, but United found themselves up against a game Marin FC side who controlled much of the first half. Still, United managed to score first, with a 59th minute strike from Mateo Pasqua. But Marin FC simply would not give up and equalized four minutes later as Erik Zolezzi scored a true golazo that forced overtime and, eventually, penalties, where United prevailed.
U17 BOYS STATE SEMIFINAL B
5/12Union Sacramento
3-0
San Jose Earthquakes
For much of the tournament, it appeared as if the San Jose Earthquakes would regain their form that saw them qualify for the State Cup final last year and win the Champions League as well. But with a re-tooled side, it was simply a bridge too far for the ‘Quakes as Champions League side Union Sacramento put on an absolute clinic in a 3-0 win to reach the final. Adrian Galeana scored the only goal Union needed just 23 minutes into the match and added another just before half time, but Emmanuel Rey sealed the deal four minutes after the break to set up a derby with Sacramento United in the final.
