NorCal NPL Match Day #11

After much anticipation, the NPL Champions League for the U14-U19 divisions finally returned this past weekend with a multitude of high-level, competitive games all across the state. Here are your games of the week.

NPL Schedules and Results

Saturday, March 24th

Heritage SC 0 – California Odyssey Red 0

In a match where many would have predicted the goals to come in bunches, neither Heritage nor the California Odyssey could find the back of the net, leading to a scoreless draw. The lack of scoring wasn’t for a lack of trying, though, as Odyssey goalkeeper Jason Smith was forced to make five saves to keep the clean sheet.

Marin FC Blue 0 – Santa Rosa United 2

SRU Scorers: Bettinelli, Graham

In the North Bay derby this past weekend, Santa Rosa United scored goals on either side of halftime to down local rivals Marin FC via a 2-0 scoreline. In just the 25th minute of the game Mila Bettinelli scored the game winner, heading home a free kick from Sam Fenske. Thirty-five minutes later, Santa Rosa doubled their advantage, with Maddie Graham scoring to end all competitive aspects of the game.

Santa Rosa United 1 – Santa Clara Sporting Green 0

SRU Scorer: Rodriguez

In a physical match where there weren’t many chances for either side, Nathan Rodriguez scored the only goal of the game in the 77th minute to propel Santa Rosa United past Santa Clara sporting. Rodriguez was set up by influential attacker Rafa Vega-Sosa to make the most of the early-season game and to grab all three points on the day.

Sunday, March 25th

Mustang 04 1 – OV Toros FC Black 2

Mustang Scorer: Fields
OV Scorer: Lema 2

In a match that they controlled for nearly its entirety, the Orchard Valley Toros defeated Mustang 2-1 thanks to a brace from Karlie Lema. Lema scored in the third and 18th minutes to put the Toros up 2-0 before Mustang’s Cameron Fields pulled one back in the 78th minute. By that point, though, the result had already been decided.
