NorCal Matchday #9

With just a few weeks left in the season, points are at a paramount for all teams in all NorCal Premier Soccer Leagues. In the NPL, teams that have performed well in both the fall and spring seasons now find themselves on the cusp of promotion to next year’s ECNL RL, the highest level of play that NorCal offers.

Here are your games of the week:

U16 Boys NPL 1
5/2Stockton TLJ
10:40 a.m. @ Misty Holt-Spring Memorial Complex
Tahuichi FC
In a wild division in which everyone but the last place side are within five points of the top of the table, two of the top four sides meet this weekend when Stockton TLJ host Tahuichi FC Saturday. Both teams have played four games and lost just once, but Stockton comes into the game two points ahead of Tahuichi and just one behind leaders Silicon Valley Eagles. A win for either side could put them atop the table and strengthen their position for promotion.
U16 Girls NPL 1
5/2Roseville SC
11:00 a.m. @ Placer Valley Soccer Complex #10
Merced United
Both Roseville SC and Merced United have enjoyed perfect starts to their U16 Girls NPL 1 seasons--each team has yet to drop a single point and both have conceded fewer than one goal per game. While Merced are currently three points behind Roseville, they have a game in hand, meaning that this is essentially a title match. If either team comes out victorious, they'll win the league. With a draw, Merced United will need to make up a goal differential deficit of three in their final game to lift the trophy.
U17 Boys NPL 1
5/3 Sunnyvale Alliance
3:00 p.m. @ Fair Oaks Park #3
Santa Cruz Mid-County SC
In a battle between third and fourth place, both Sunnyvale Alliance and Santa Cruz Mid-County SC are looking for some much-needed points in order to entertain the possibility of promotion to the ECNL RL. Both teams are within five points of third place, however while Santa Cruz have played six games, Sunnyvale have played just three, winning each of their matches thus far. With a victory this weekend, Sunnyvale could not only push for promotion, but for the overall league title as well. Meanwhile, Santa Cruz probably have to win all of their remaining games to have a shot.
U17 Girls NPL 1
5/3Union Sacramento
4:05 p.m. @ Larchmont Community Park #1
West Coast Soccer
Just three points separate first place from sixth in a wild U16 Girls NPL 1 in which several different sides retain title hopes heading into April. Third place Union will host fourth place West Coast this weekend, with Union having played one match more, but come into the game one point ahead of West Coast. A victory for either could see them move ahead of Mt. Diablo Mustang, who have yet to drop points on the season.
