This weekend, the NorCal Spring College Showcase in Davis will bring nearly 100 college coaches to the area to scout some of the top players in all of Northern California. At the forefront of the action is the inaugural season of the League Cup, a competition that pits teams from different leagues against each other. The League Cup semifinals are set for Saturday, with those winning earning a berth in Sunday’s finals.
Here are your games of the week:
| U17 Boys League Cup Semifinal |
| 5/16 | Central Valley Premier | | 10:20 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Soccer Complex #5 | | Fresno Heat |
| This Fresno derby pits a side from the ECNL RL against a team from the NPL with a berth in the League Cup final on the line. Central Valley Premier have been unstoppable in the attack so far in the League Cup, scoring 24 times in just four matches, two of which were blowouts. Meanwhile, Fresno Heat have had to grind out results, with three of their four matches decided by less than a goal, including a thrilling 3-2 quarterfinal victory over Union Sacramento. |
| U19 Girls League Cup Semifinal |
| 5/16 | North Coast FC | | 12:10 p.m. @ Davis Legacy Soccer Complex #6 | | Los Gatos United |
| These two Bay Area sides currently sit just three points apart in the ECNL RL, with either able to claim the title once the last set of matches are played. Before that, however, North Coast FC and Los Gatos United will meet with a spot in the League Cup final on the line. Both teams garnered the full nine points in the group stage before having different experiences in the quarterfinals. While North Coast were able to dispatch a tough South Valley United side via a 4-2 scoreline, Los Gatos took extra rounds of penalties to defeat IR Academy after playing to a 3-3 draw. |
| U19 Boys League Cup Semifinal |
| 5/16 | Livermore Fusion | | 1:30 p.m. @ Davis Legacy Soccer Complex #8 | | Santa Rosa United |
| This matchup that pits Santa Rosa United of the ECNL against the current second place side in the ECNL RL in Livermore Fusion could be a toss up given each team's form in the League Cup. Livermore have been efficient in their run to the semifinals, scoring 14 goals while allowing just one goal in each game. Meanwhile Santa Rosa actually dropped points in their last group stage match against Silicon Valley Eagles before beating that same side in the quarterfinals the very next day. |
| U17 Girls League Cup Semifinal |
| 5/16 | Granite Bay FC | | 3:50 p.m. @ Davis Legacy Soccer Complex #4 | | San Juan South |
| Both Granite Bay FC and San Juan South absolutely rolled through the competition during the group stage of the League Cup. Neither side allowed a goal in three games before both participated in wild quarterfinal matchups to advance to this weekend of play. Granite Bay narrowly edged Los Gatos United on penalties after the two sides played to a 4-4 draw in regular time. Meanwhile, San Juan South knocked off Reno APEX via a 5-2 scoreline in a seven goal thriller. |
