Games of the Week #5: State Cup Group Stage

While it may be a tournament weekend for most teams, there’s still plenty of action in various NorCal competitions to highlight. This weekend we head to the State Cup, where the the group stage of matches is coming to its conclusion. Each team in the U13-U19 divisions have played at least one of their three games, with placement in the knockout round stages on the line Saturday and Sunday.

Here are your games of the week:

U15 Girls State/Premier
9/26Allstars SC
11:15 a.m. @ Redwood Middle School
Peninsula Youth Soccer
While three teams in Group M of the U15 Girls State/Premier Cup are all tied on three points, two of them, Allstars SC and Peninsula Youth Soccer have played just one match so far. Should either side win, they'll clinch a spot in the knockout rounds of the State Division, while a loss wouldn't be devastating but would make it harder to qualify for that same level.
U13 Girls State/Premier Cup
9/26Elk Grove Soccer
2:00 p.m. @ Larry Gury Community Park
Reno APEX
As the only team to pick up all three points on matchday 1, Elk Grove Soccer can secure a spot in the State Division with a victory Saturday. They've had a red hot start to their league season as well and currently sit in first place in the ECNL RL. Meanwhile, Reno APEX are sitting on just a single point, but still control their own destiny.
U16 Boys State/Premier Cup
9/27Belmont United
6:00 p.m. @ Koret Field at NDNU
Hollister Tremors
Belmont United are sitting in a good place heading into this weekend's group stage game--they've already secured three points from just one game played. Meanwhile, Hollister Tremors have picked up just a single point from two games. Should Belmont win, they'll be placed in the State Division, but Hollister will need a win and for some other results to go their way.
U17 Boys State/Premier Cup
9/27Pajaro Valley YSC
6:00 p.m. @ Watsonville High School
Almaden FC
Just one point separates Pajaro Valley YSC and Almaden FC in the U17 N1 Division and these Bay Area rivals will be looking to one up each other in their matchup this Sunday. With Legends SC on six points and likely already through to the State Division, the winner between Pajaro Valley/Almaden matchup will likely determine who claims the second place spot and a berth in the State Division knockout round.
