Games of the Week #11: U9/U10 State Cup Finals

With 104 different titles up for grabs, the U9 and U10 State Cup comes to an exciting conclusion this weekend, with all finals being held Saturday and Sunday at Davis Legacy Soccer Club. Heading into the weekend, just four teams remain in each division and we’ve previewed all the action for you in the State Division, NorCal Premier Soccer’s highest level of play.

Here are your games of the week:

U9 Girls State Cup Semifinal
11/7Mustang SC
9:45 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 15
MVLA
Bay Area Superpowers Mustang SC and MVLA are always in the conversation for State Cup titles and this year is no different as both come into the semifinals having blown the competition away so far. In second group stage action, the pair of sides each picked up the maximum nine points before prevailing in their quarterfinal matchups by three-goal margins each. Something has to break, though, and one of these unbeaten sides will go home Saturday morning after an incredible run.
U9 Girls State Cup Semifinal
11/7Walnut Creek Surf
9:45 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 16
North Coast FC
Walnut Creek Surf and North Coast FC round out the semifinalists in the U9 State Division to make it an all Bay Area final four. Both squads were impressive in the second group stage, picking up nine points from three games before facing tough quarterfinal matchups. Walnut Creek reached this stage thanks to a tight 3-2 victory over Santa Clara Sporting, while North Coast FC edged out MVLA East 5-4 in an equally tight contest.
U10 Boys State Cup Semifinal
11/7Lodi FC
11:15 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 15
Santa Clara Sporting
Lodi FC began and finished the second group stage strong, winning by a combined eight goals in their first and third games, though the Central Valley side also showed that they can win tight games with a pair of one-goal victories in their second group stage and quarterfinal matches to reach the semifinals with four wins from four games. There, they'll face Santa Clara Sporting, who comfortably defeated their opposition in three group stage matches before eking out a 4-3 victory against San Jose Rush in the quarterfinals.
U10 Boys State Cup Semifinal
11/7South Valley United
11:15 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 16
Cal Victory FC
South Valley United showed some true grit in the second group stage of the competition, just scraping by via goal differential to qualify for the State Division quarterfinals after playing Walnut Creek Surf to a 3-3 draw in their second group stage. Thanks to three more goals scored, they advanced to the quarterfinals, where they soundly defeated Yuba Elite FC 2-0 to reach this stage of the competition. Petaluma's Cal Victory FC had an easier time in the second group stage, winning all three of their matchups, but their quarterfinal against Bay Area Surf went down to the wire, with the North Bay side ultimately prevailing via a 2-1 scoreline.
U10 Girls State Cup Semifinal
11/8Girls Unite
9:30 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 15
Bay Area Surf
Thanks to victories in their opening two matches of the second group stage, Girls Unite secured the top spot in their group after just two matches, leading to a quarterfinal game against Atletico Santa Rosa that they won 3-1 to qualify for the semifinals. Their first matchup on Finals Weekend may just be their biggest test yet, though, as Bay Area Surf stormed through the second group phase and the quarterfinals with four straight victories while allowing just one goal. Bay Area also weren't slouches offensively--Surf scored 22 goals in their past four games to ride comfortably into the semis.
U10 Girls State Cup Semifinal
11/8Santa Clara Sporting
9:30 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 16
CV Futbol Academy
Two of the historically stronger clubs in this age group in Santa Clara Sporting and CV Futbol Academy head into the semifinals after stellar second group stages saw them score at will. Santa Clara hit the back of the net 15 times in three matches, while CV scored a seemingly impossible 27 times en route to the quarterfinals. Things got tougher from there, though, as Sporting defeated California Odyssey via a 3-0 scoreline, while CVFC narrowly edged Northern Nevada Soccer Club in a one-goal victory.
U9 Boys State Cup Semifinal
11/8Pajaro Valley United
11:00 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 15
San Francisco Glens
When these two teams participated in the second group stage and quarterfinals back in October, they had somewhat different experiences. Pajaro Valley United cruised through their first three games, winning all of them, before narrowly edging Elk Grove Soccer 3-2 in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, the San Francisco Glens actually lost one of their group matches to win their bracket with just six points, but then hit the back of the net seven times in the quarterfinals in a five-goal victory to reach this stage. On Sunday, we'll find out which carries the better form as a berth in the final is on the line.
U9 Boys State Cup Semifinal
11/8Turlock Academica Jrs
11:00 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 16
South Valley United
Turlock Academica Jrs has posted some wild scores in the competition, including a 9-2 victory and an 11-8 win, both in the second group stage. Their quarterfinal was equally as crazy, producing a 4-3 scoreline in a victory against Albion SC Merced. In their last four games, there have been a total of 42 goals scored for what appear to be the most entertaining side in youth soccer. Their opponents in South Valley United have been much more muted, but equally as successful. South Valley posted two shutouts in the second group stage, including one in a 9-0 victory, before coolly downing San Jose Rush 4-2 to reach the semifinals.
