All-Star Rosters Announced – NorCal College Showcase Boys Weekend

NorCal Premier Soccer is thrilled to release the Boys All-Star Team Rosters for this weekend’s College Showcase All-Star Game.

A total of 50 players from 31 clubs were selected to compete in the Boys All-Star Game, which will feature squads made up of high school juniors and seniors from ECNL-RL and NPL. The teams will be divided into two regional groups–the Bay All-Stars and the Valley All-Stars. For the first time, NorCal will announce a Player of the Match live following the game.

NorCal is also proud to announce our coaching lineup for the All-Star Game–the Bay Team will be led by Technical Director of the USL Championship Professional Side at Oakland Roots, Jordan Farrell; and the Valley Team will be led by Justin Selander, Assistant Director of the NorCal Premier PDP Program and former player for UCLA men’s soccer .

“NorCal’s All-Star Game offers a unique opportunity for top players in Northern California to display their talents in front of college coaches attending our Showcase,” said NPL Commissioner Kelcey Chaidez. “It’s an memorable experience for the players to represent both their region and club on the big stage in what is sure to be an exciting matchup.”

COACHES Q&A
Ahead of the game, we got our coaches thoughts going into the match and advice to players–check out their insight:

Bay Team Coach – Jordan Ferrell
Technical Director, Oakland Roots
(USL Championship Pro Side)

  1. What excites you the most about coaching this game and what are you hoping to contribute to the players’ experience?
    • Jordan: I love working with high-potential young players and enjoy seeing them in these types of showcase environments. I hope to help this group understand the mentality and commitment it takes to reach the professional level.
  2. What is your advice for the players taking part in this All-Star game as they look to continue their development and potentially pursue college or next level soccer opportunities?
    • Jordan: Keep continuously working hard at your craft because there are always plenty of other players out there working harder than you. You have to love the process of honing skills and becoming a sponge for information. How quickly you can process and implement instructions from a coach matters, especially as the demand for you to adapt to new coaches and teammates quickly increases.
  3. Is there anything else you would like to add?
    • Jordan: Take advantage of every opportunity. You never know who is watching and all it takes is one coach or scout to see something from you to gain or lose an opportunity. So play every moment like the biggest opportunity is around the corner.

Valley Team Coach – Justin Selander
Former Player UCLA Men’s Soccer
Assistant PDP Program Director, NorCal Premier Soccer

  1. What excites you the most about coaching this game and what are you hoping to contribute to the players’ experience?
    • Justin: As PDP Assistant Director, I’ve been fortunate enough to work with NorCal’s best players in a selection type environment for years and now I couldn’t be more excited to lead this group of boys at the Showcase All-Star Game. It’s an honor for each player just to be chosen and I can’t wait to see how each of the players perform on the field. As for what I hope to contribute to the players, it’s no different than any team I coach–I want to foster a belief in them and help them play the beautiful game in a beautiful way.
  2. What is your advice for the players taking part in this All-Star game as they look to continue their development and potentially pursue college or next level soccer opportunities?
    • Justin: I want to encourage the players to play confidently, take people on, and use their creativity to create chances, all while giving 100% on the field. The minimum expectation is to give maximum effort and if you do that, you’ll continue to develop and potentially succeed at the next level. Talent will only get you so far, the best players usually end up being the players who worked the hardest for the longest so even if there are others above you right now, that might not stay the case if you’re willing to put in the work.
  3. Is there anything else you would like to add?
    • Justin: First and foremost, soccer should always be a fun experience for the players–if you don’t truly love the game, you’re not going to reach the same level as those who do. I hope that each of these players takes a moment to appreciate this opportunity they’ve been given to play with the rest of NorCal’s best in a stadium under the lights.
