103 Champions Crowned in U9/U10 State Cup

The U9/U10 NorCal Premier Soccer State Cup concluded this past Saturday and Sunday with 103 different teams claiming titles during Finals Weekend at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.

In a competition that began all the way back in September with 785 total teams, those who were victorious played in a total of nine matches over five different weekends this fall.

“We want to give a huge thanks to all of the players, coaches, team managers, and parents who helped make this such a successful event during all stages,” said U9-U12 State Cup Coordinator John Stoppelmann. “State Cup is a competition that everyone looks forward to every year but it takes the efforts of so many to ensure that these young athletes are able to make lifelong memories.”

State Cup began back in September with a club-hosted three-game group stage before teams were reseeded based on how they finished into a second group stage at a NorCal hosted site. From there, each team was placed into the quarterfinal round against a team with similar results.

Those who were victorious that weekend qualified for Finals Weekend, with matches taking place at Granite Park in Sacramento and Davis, though all finals were held at the latter.

“Our unique reseeding process ensures that teams play in the most competitive games possible, ensuring that players and teams are able to develop at the best rate possible,” Stoppelmann said. “This helps make our State Cup a truly special competition for all levels to enjoy.”

While 103 different levels were offered, only one team from each age group earned the right to call themselves the true NorCal State Cup champion: those who came out victorious in the State Division.

Four different clubs earned such honors this past weekend, with Santa Clara Sporting (U9 Boys), Mustang SC (U9 Girls), Modesto Ajax United (U10 Boys), and MVLA (U10 Girls) each claiming the title.

All four of these teams have now earned spots in next spring’s California Cup, pitting them against the top teams from SOCAL Soccer League, along with the runners-up in each division. The runners-up are: Albion SC Merced (U9 Boys), Santa Clara Sporting (U9 Girls), Santa Clara Sporting (U10 Boys), and Mustang SC (U10 Girls).

Meanwhile, there was action elsewhere in the State Cup this past weekend as well as the U11 and U12 Gold, Silver, and Bronze divisions each began their knockout rounds on the boys side with NorCal hosted round of 16 and quarterfinal matchups.

This Saturday and Sunday, the girls side of the same levels will play, with matches hosted at Mary Grogan Community Park in Modesto, San Juan Soccer Complex in Rancho Cordova, and Rancho San Ramon.

The teams that win both of their knockout games will then qualify for the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Finals Weekend, which will be held December 6 and 7 at Mary Grogan Park in Modesto and Robertson Park in Livermore. All finals will be held at Mary Grogan.
