U17 Girls NPL Spring Showcase: Recap

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

NPL Champions

Lamorinda United

2nd Place

Livermore Fusion

In a division that came down to the wire, Lamorinda SC proved worthy of a title despite not controlling their own destiny entering the weekend. Heading into the final match, Lamorinda needed a win and a Livermore loss or tie to claim the championship. To complicate matters, a Diablo FC victory over Livermore, coupled with a Lamorinda loss would have given third-place Diablo the title. But while Diablo and Livermore put up a fight, a winner couldn’t be decided in a 1-1 match, and Lamorinda claimed the title with a 5-1 victory over the CV Earthquakes.

NPL 1

Even though there are still a multitude of games left to play in the U17 Girls NPL 1, De Anza Force have already claimed the championship, thanks in part to to victories over the California Odyssey and Clovis Crossfire in which they scored a combined 10 goals in the NPL College Showcase. The victory on Sunday over the Crossfire was especially significant as Force needed a win to claim the title, while Clovis needed a win or a draw — De Anza ended up on top of a wild game with a 4-1 scoreline.

NPL 2

Facing off just a few weeks ago, third-place Odyssey South bested first-place Santa Clara Sporting by a 1-0 scoreline in the U17 Girls NPL 2 division. But Sporting remain in the driver’s seat, able to clinch the division with a win over 3-2-1 Walnut Creek. Should Sporting draw or lose, Odyssey can capture the title with a win over 1-4-1 Sacramento United.

NPL 3

In a division that featured draws in all of the matches heading into the NPL College Showcase, we finally got our first victories of the season, with three of the four showcase matches having winners. Still, all four teams in the U17 Girls NPL 3 remain in contention for the title, with three teams tied for first, and four games left to play.
