U17 Girls NPL Spring Showcase: Preview
Champions League
The matchup that everyone has been looking forward to could decide the U17 Champions League title as early as Saturday morning when Marin FC (15 points) face California Odyssey (12 points). Should Marin win, they will claim the league title, while a draw will almost certainly be enough to guarantee a title as Marin would have to then lose Sunday and have the Odyssey win by a combined score of 10 goals. The teams met this past weekend in State Cup play with Marin holding off Odyssey by a 1-0 scoreline.
Champions League Schedules and Results
NPL 1
While games for this division run all the way into June, there’s a good chance that all the action will be wrapped up Saturday when first-place SF Elite (15 points) meet second-place San Bruno (13 points). But that will be the second match of the day for SF, who also play fourth-place Union Sacramento (11 points) in an earlier fixture. Should SF Elite drop points in either of those games, that will leave room for either of those aforementioned sides or third-place West Coast Soccer (11 points), who have a game in hand on every other contender.
NPL 2
While all of Livermore Fusion, California Thorns, and Castro Valley SC sit atop the table with nine points apiece, the Thorns have a game in hand. Normally, they would be the favorites to take the title, but fourth-place San Juan SC (seven points) actually are the only team that controls their own destiny as they have two games in hand on the Fusion and Castro Valley. With all sides in the division still in contention for a top-four spot that would earn automatic NPL qualification in the fall, there’s still much to play for all around this league.
