U17 Boys NPL Spring Showcase: Preview
Champions League
In the closest division in any age group of any gender, only four points separate first-place Santa Clara Sporting (nine points) from last-place Union Sacramento (five points). Each and every side is still alive and capable of winning this division, but along with Sporting, Ballistic United (nine points) and Placer United (nine points) look to have the best chance to do so along with Sporting. Still, this division should come down to the final whistle on Sunday morning with both the NPL title and second place ENPL Western Playoff spot on the line.
Champions League Schedules and Result
NPL 1
With a game scheduled all the way in June, this division may not be wrapped up during the NorCal Premier Soccer College Showcase. That being said, five of the division’s seven teams still have a shot at the title, with Galt FC (nine points) leading the way with a perfect 3-0-0 record. Just behind them sit the San Jose Earthquakes, who have an equal point total, but have played one more game. Other contenders include Davis Legacy (eight points), Napa Sport Academy (seven points), and Palo Alto SC (six points).
NPL 2
While matches in this division won’t conclude until June, neither side playing in that last game is in contention for the NPL 2 title, meaning that this showcase will claim a champion either Saturday or Sunday. Leading the way currently are Mavericks, who have 12 points, but have played one more game than second-place California Odyssey (10 points). Tied on points with the Odyssey are third-place Turlock Tornados, who have played an additional match, while also in the running are SACYSL California Northstars, who have six points, but have played just three games.
NPL 3
This division is topped by a pair of sides: East Bay United and Marin FC (12 points). But though both sides are tied on points, a midweek match between the two saw Marin come out on top, meaning that should they finish level on points, Marin will take the title. Also in contention for the title are Atlas Academy (nine points) and Clovis Crossfire (nine points) in a division that will only see the top two qualify automatically for the NPL next year.
