U15-U19 NorCal State Cup Finals Preview

In the culmination of a process that started all the way back last fall, the oldest age groups of the NorCal Premier Soccer State Cup will finally conclude this weekend with title matches taking place this Saturday and Sunday at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.

Overall, 40 titles are still up for grabs in the U15-U19 divisions, with most having already cut down to the final matchups, though there are a few semifinals still to be played in the lead up to this weekend.

“We want to congratulate all the teams who have made it this far in the NorCal State Cup,” said NorCal State Cup Coordinator Brian Voltattorni. “Just qualifying for Finals Weekend is an enormous accomplishment that few squads will ever experience given the size and quality of the event.”

“We wish every team this weekend good luck for what is the end of a long season,” Voltattorni added.

Last August, NorCal’s State Cup, the largest State Cup competition in the country, began with a group stage where each team played three opponents in order to determine knockout round seeding.

After that phase ended, most teams entered in the round of 32, which was hosted by the higher seed. The higher seed also hosted round of 16 matchups before teams converged on neutral settings at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex and Turlock Regional Sports Complex to take part in the quarterfinals and semifinals.

To make Finals Weekend, most teams had to win four consecutive matchups.

While NorCal will award 40 different champions this weekend, just eight of those will earn the right to call themselves NorCal’s true State Champions: the teams still alive in the State Division, the highest division offered.

So far, 12 different clubs have earned a spot in at least one final, with Albion SC Merced, California Odyssey, and Clovis Crossfire each placing two teams in championship matchups.

They’ll be joined in the finals by Bay Area Surf, Folsom Lake Surf, Marin FC, Mustang SC, Reno APEX, San Juan South, Solano Surf, TSP FC, and Turlock Academica Jrs.

Additionally, there are two State Division semifinals that have yet to take place, with two Mustang sides, and one team each from IR Academy and San Juan South still in contention.

Those two matches will both kick off Saturday morning at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.
