5/6Odyssey South
2-3
Turlock Tornados
In this Central California derby, Odyssey South Black originally looked to have the upper hand in the match, with Christian Roldan doing his best impression of his Seattle Sounders FC namesake. Roldan scored a pair of first half goals on either side of Turlock’s Pablo Moreno strike to take a 2-1 advantage into halftime. U15 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL B
5/6Napa SA
5-0
Briceno Victory
As the only team left from a Gold division, Briceno Victory looked to continue their strong run of upsets, but were thwarted by a powerful Napa Soccer Academy team, who erupted for five goals. The moment of the match came early in the first half when Gerado Perez scored the first of his two strikes with a 12-yard full volley off the inside of the post. Angelo Dominguez also scored a brace, while Erik Varagas got on the scoresheet as well to send the NPL Champions League side into the semifinals.
U15 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL C
5/6Sacramento United
3-4
Lamorinda United
In a contender for the overall match of the weekend, Sacramento United came out to a huge 3-1 lead in the first 22 minutes against recently crowned NPL Champions League winners Lamorinda United. But Lamorinda proved their quality in scoring three straight goals, with the winner coming on a far post finish from Fernando Lara in the final minute. For Lamorinda, Nickolas Geannacopulos provided much of the magic in the attack, scoring a hat trick to lead the comeback, while also giving the Sacramento defense fits for the entirety of the game.
U15 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL D
5/6SC Sporting
2-0
Atletico Santa Rosa
NPL 1 squad Santa Clara Sporting’s attack simply proved too strong for their Champions League counterparts in this one, with Noah Robertson scoring in the 20th minute and Said Ansari grabbing a goal just four minutes from time for a solid, 2-0 victory. Coming into the match, it was Atletico who looked to have the upper hand on the defensive side, having not allowed a goal in the knockout stages before this game, but Sporting finally broke through and earned a semifinal berth in the process.
