On a pair of sunny days at Mary Grogan Park in Modesto, NorCal Premier Soccer’s State Cup State Division quarterfinals produced some of the best action, drama, and — of course — soccer, that we’ve seen in 2017. Each of the five divisions for boys and girls entered the weekend with eight squads, cutting to four ahead of Saturday’s semifinals at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.

KNOCKOUT BRACKETS

While Saturday’s games — featuring U14 and U15 girls, and U14, U15, and U16 boys — produced a ton of close results in near-perfect Californian spring weather, it was the drama of Sunday that really set the competition apart. In all, four State Division games went to penalties Sunday, with a further one being won in overtime, making the most of a day that was marred by a few hours of high winds in Central California.
