NPL Matchday #11

Several league titles are up for grabs this weekend when NPL Matchday #11 kicks off all throughout the state. After three months of compelling action, much of the play will be decided this weekend as most teams are playing in either their last or second-to-last matches.

Here are your NPL games of the week:

U16 Boys NPL East

Association Football Club 1 – 1974 Newark FC 2

Saturday, 11/5 12:00 p.m. @ Merritt College – Stadium

In a battle between first and second place, 1974 Newark FC went on the road to defeat Association Football Club 2-1 to claim the U16 Boys NPL East title. Despite being outshot 16-6, the visitors were able to hit the back of the net on two different occasions to finish level on points with AFC and win the championship via head-to-head tiebreaker.

U16 Girls NPL South

California Odyssey 1 – West Coast Soccer 1

Goalscorers:

Odyssey: Bailey

West Coast: Indalecio

While a victory would have given California Odyssey the U16 Girls NPL South title, visiting West Coast Soccer ground out a result against the first-place side in the table this past weekend in a 1-1 draw. Playing in their second match in four hours, West Coast scored first as Jariah Indalecio hit the back of the net just nine minutes into the match. The hosts leveled the scoreline in the 61st minute through Trinity Bailey, setting up an exciting finish to league play. The two sides face each other again Saturday in what’s essentially a championship match. With 16 points, California Odyssey have a slight advantage and will need just a draw, while 15-point West Coast needs a victory to raise the trophy.

U16 Girls NPL North

IR Academy 1 – Folsom Lake Surf 1

Saturday, 11/5 3:45 p.m. @ Bartholomew Sports Park – BSP 3

Three teams are still in contention for the U16 Girls NPL North title: Folsom Lake Surf, San Juan SC, and IR Academy. Folsom currently have 16 points, just one behind San Juan, but San Juan have already played all seven of their league contests. Meanwhile, IR Academy sit on 12 points but have two games left, including this weekend’s contest against Folsom. Should Folsom win, they’ll win the league, but if IR claim all three points, they can capture the title the following day against North Coast. San Juan will lift the trophy, however, if IR win against Folsom but lose or tie against North Coast.

U15 Boys NPL West

Stanford SC 4 – Los Gatos United 1

Saturday, 11/5 4:00 p.m. @ Mayfield South

With two games left apiece for Stanford SC and Los Gatos United, this weekend’s matchup could decide the title between a pair of previously unbeaten teams. Stanford SC have been perfect thus far, winning all six of their games while scoring 29 goals and allowing just one. A seventh win will grant them the title. Meanwhile, Los Gatos have 16 points from six games and will need a win this weekend and then a better result than Stanford in the final game to capture the championship.

U19 Girls NPL East

Association Football Club 1 – West Coast Soccer 1

Saturday, 11/5 4:00 p.m. @ Merritt College – Stadium

Association Football Club and West Coast Soccer both head into the weekend with identical 4-1-1 records, trailing first-place Pleasanton RAGE by three points. Given that RAGE defeated West Coast already this season, only AFC or Pleasanton can win the title thanks to the pair playing to a draw all the way back in August. RAGE need just a point in their game to secure the title, while if AFC win and RAGE lose, AFC will finish first.

U19 Boys NPL North

Association Football Club 1 – Walnut Creek Surf 1

Sunday, 11/6 12:00 p.m. @ Merritt College – Stadium

Thanks to an early goal from Association Football Club winger William Daniel, AFC were able to secure the U19 Boys NPL North title after playing Walnut Creek Surf to a 1-1 draw Sunday in Oakland. The result put both teams level on 14 points, but AFC were able to edge Walnut Creek thanks to a superior goal differential.
