NorCal State Cup Semifinals Preview: U16 Girls

U16 GIRLS STATE SEMIFINAL A
5/12Marin FC Blue
0-1
Livermore Fusion
In one of the biggest upsets of the weekend, defending State Cup finalists and current Champions League table-toppers Marin FC were defeated by NPL 2 side Livermore Fusion. The Fusion rode an early goal from Jackie Fenner, who scored just 13 minutes into the game, all the way to the final. And though Marin sent waves of attackers into the final third of the field, they just couldn’t find an equalizer, as the Fusion defense held to reach the final.
U16 GIRLS STATE SEMIFINAL B
5/12FC Elk Grove Platinum
2-2
(2-4)
Vision Academy
The defending champions of pretty much every tournament and league, FC Elk Grove headed into their matchup against fellow NPL Champions League side Vision Academy as the clear favorites. And though Elk Grove took the lead twice, first through a fourth minute goal from Malaya-Jae De Leon, and then again two minutes into overtime on a header from Parker Sikora, Vision just wouldn’t give up. Teresa Garcia equalized in the 23rd minute in regular time, before a spot kick with three minutes left in overtime from Emma Vane sent the game to kicks from the mark, where Vision prevailed.
