NorCal State Cup Quarterfinals Recap: U19 Girls

U19 GIRLS STATE QUARTERFINAL A
4/29FC Elk Grove Platinum
2-0
Ceres Earthquake
In this U19 contest, FC Elk Grove scored two quick goals to essentially put the match away early. Just eight minutes into the game, Olivia Mattos scored the eventual game-winning goal before Kennedy Earley added another early goal in the 22nd minute to send FC Elk Grove into the semifinals.
U19 GIRLS STATE QUARTERFINAL B
4/29Palo Alto 99 Blue
3-1
California Magic
Possibly the favorites to win it all, Palo Alto SC got off to a quality start in this match, with Sabrina Nava scoring just 20 minutes into the game. But California Magic drew level six minutes into the second half with an opportunistic strike from Kierra Krawec. But then Palo Alto showed why they’re so highly rated, with Laura Fuentes and Haley Chitwood each scoring shortly thereafter to propel Palo Alto to a 3-1 victory.
U19 GIRLS STATE QUARTERFINAL C
4/29Cal Thorns Academy 2
3-1
Clovis Crossfire
In what was expected to be one of the closest matchups of the weekend, California Thorns put three goals past the Clovis Crossfire to advance to the semifinals via a 3-1 scoreline. Carly Lowi was the star for the Thorns, scoring the first and third goals for the club to pair with a strike from Kayla Souto. Meanwhile, for Clovis, Jaden Belcher scored on 36 minutes, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to see the Crossfire through.
U19 GIRLS STATE QUARTERFINAL D
4/29Blues FC
1-1
(4-3)
SC Sporting Green
In what was billed by some as the game of the weekend, the Blues FC - Santa Clara Sporting match certainly disappoint. The last game to finish of the weekend, all eyes were on this matchup that went to penalties after Victoria Sullivan opened the scoring for Blues in the fourth minute before Sophia Mendoza equalized for Sporting in the 28th minute. So to penalties it went, and Blues proved to be slightly better, winning via a 4-3 margin to book their semifinal place.
