NorCal State Cup Quarterfinals Recap: U17 Girls

U17 GIRLS STATE QUARTERFINAL A
4/29USA Stars
3-1
Mustang Elite
Marina Soares proved to be the star woman in this quarterfinal tie, as the attacker scored in both the eighth and 88th minutes to give USA Stars Academy the two-goal margin they needed to defeat a tough Mustang SC side. After Soares scored her first of day, Mustang equalized in the 20th minute with a goal from Margaret Schmidt, but Malia Darke struck back in the 54th minute for the eventual game winner before Soares added her second.
U17 GIRLS STATE QUARTERFINAL B
4/29Diablo FC
0-1
West Coast Wildfire
With time winding down in this tough quarterfinal matchup, it appeared as if both West Coast Soccer and Diablo FC would be heading to overtime and, possibly, kicks from the mark as well. But a 76th minute strike from West Coast’s Jaden Hall prevented that, helping her squad grind out a hard-fought victory that puts them in the semifinals.
U17 GIRLS STATE QUARTERFINAL C
4/29Marin FC Blue
8-0
Tahuichi FC
In one of the most lopsided games of the weekend, Marin FC scored early and often in defeating Tahuichi 8-0 to advance to the semifinals. Elizabeth Travers and Renee Ferguson each scored two goals to lead Marin to victory Sunday.
U17 GIRLS STATE QUARTERFINAL D
4/29UC Premier Warriors
1-4
Cal Odyssey Red
Showing their diversity in attack, California Odyssey scored four different goals through four different players in avoiding an upset bid from Union City Premier. Just 10 minutes into the game, the Odyssey found themselves on the scoreboard when Isabella Keomounpane hit the back of the net. 1-0 is how it would stay in the first half, only for California to explode with three second half goals through Roopali Signh, Macey Merlo, and Melani Medina, meaning that Anmol Gill’s goal for Union was nonthreatening.
