NorCal State Cup Quarterfinals Recap: U17 Boys
U17 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL A |
|||||
4/29 | Sacramento United | Cal Odyssey Red
Despite some early chances from Sacramento United, it was California Odyssey who scored first in this match, with Michael Gonzalez heading home a ball in the 59th minute to give Odyssey reason to dream of an upset. The Odyssey could have doubled their lead a few minutes later when they were awarded a penalty, only for United goalkeeper Tristan Sanchez to save it. Sacramento drew level in the 72nd minute through a free kick from Oscar Cisneros before winning the game four minutes later on a header from Cole Barrett.
U17 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL B |
|||||
4/29 | Palo Alto Blue | Marin FC Blue
One of the more fast-paced games of the weekend, it was somewhat surprising that this match went into halftime scoreless -- both sides fielded an attack team with dynamic weapons up front. But in State Cup, sometimes it just takes one moment of brilliance, and that moment was found in the 63rd minute when shifty attacker Andoni Etcheverry scored for Marin to put the club into the semifinals.
U17 BOYS STATE QUARTERFINAL C |
|||||
4/29 | Union Sacramento | Atletico Santa Rosa
In a matchup between two teams that advanced to this round thanks to their sheer ability to win games, Union Sacramento was all over Atletico Santa Rosa for the majority of this game. Matthew Kahn scored in just the 10th minute for Union, before Maxwell Albert doubled their advantage in the 47th minute. Joseph Blakely then added a brace for Sacramento, bettering out a 69th minute strike from Atletico’s Alan Soto.

4/29 | San Jose Earthquakes | (5-4) | Galt FC Tarascos
In a this wide open, physical game, somehow neither side managed to score through 90 minutes of play and a further 10 of overtime. After defeating defending champions Lamorinda SC two weeks ago, defending finalists San Jose showed their experience in the penalty shootout, hitting all five of their shots to advance to the semifinals over Galt via a 5-4 margin. |
