LIGA NorCal Matchday No. 8

With the LIGA NorCal season roughly one-third of the way over, the standings are starting to take shape — there have been upsets and close games and what has emerged is a large group of teams with just a few points separating them. Here is your LIGA NorCal Game of the Week recap:

Modesto United FC 1 – Acoreano 2

Goalscorers: Acoreano: Velazquez, Rodriguez

Modesto:

Scoring on either side of halftime, the first off of a corner kick and the second on an opportunistic strike, Acoreano lengthened their lead over Modesto United FC to four points in the LIGA NorCal table this past weekend.

Luiz Velazquez scored the first for the visitors before Jonathan Rodriguez doubled their advantage 15 minutes after the break.

Modesto then brought one back, keeping it close through an outside-of-the box shot from Serafin Alberto, but by that point it was too late as Acoreano were able to collect all three points.

“It was a very competitive and fast-paced game,” said Acoreano manager Tomas Zajfert. “Both teams were very nervous in the first 15 minutes and had half chances that could have been scored by both teams. As soon as we gained composure, we started controlling the game a little bit better and used our fast-paced counter attacks to put some pressure on Modesto’s back line.”

Added Modesto manager Ivan Vovk: “We had our chances to tie, we didn’t play our best and we just didn’t finish. Acoreano deserved the win.”
