LIGA NorCal Matchday No. 2 Recap

With both LIGA Premier and LIGA Regional in play for the first time this season, it was an exciting weekend for LIGA NorCal as adult teams all across the state either continued their seasons or got theirs underway.

Here is your LIGA NorCal match of the week recap:

Elk Grove Everton 2 – Modesto United FC 2

Elk Grove Scorer: Kakudo (2)
Modesto Scorers: Maldonado, Gutierrez

After losing their opening match, Elk Grove Everton came out on the offensive against Modesto United FC, scoring twice in the first 55 minutes through attacker Christian Kakudo.

But while Elk Grove looked to have three points in the bag, Modesto United grabbed one back in the 57th minute via a strike from Jaime Maldonado before Oscar Gutierrez’s diving header leveled the match in the 69th minute with a diving header.

The match gave Everton their first point of the season and moved Modesto United up the table with four points from two games.

“It was a good game, not the result we wanted, obviously our team has a lot of things to work on to improve,” said Everton head coach Raul Echeverria. “Modesto is a tough contender, but I think we gave them a good match. Good game, good match, looking forward to playing them again.”
Added Modesto coach Ivan Vovk: “I felt we controlled the possession of the ball the entire game. We were unlucky to be down 2-0. However, we showed the mentality of a seasoned team, and never gave up which allowed us to come back and tie the game. I’m confident that if there were another five minutes we would have scored the winning goal.”
