With the start of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup this week, we’re doing things a little bit differently here. Instead of headlining with a professional game of the week, we’re going to highlight our Open Cup matches in the interests of promoting the second-longest continually-running cup tournament in the world.

But without further ado, here are this week’s listings:

Game of the Week: El Farolito vs. Burlingame Dragons

When: Wednesday May 10, 3:00 p.m.

Where: Boxer Stadium, San Francisco

Competition: U.S. Open Cup

Additional Info: In the first round of the U.S. Open Cup, former Open Cup champion El Farolito plays host to the Burlingame Dragons, with a second round match against the San Francisco Deltas at stake. As a completely amateur side, not much is known about El Farolito’s roster, other than that it is one that typically dominates the local San Francisco Soccer Football League. Meanwhile, third-year franchise Burlingame Dragons typically contend for a playoff spot in the Premier Development League, one of the various fourth divisions in the United States. Tickets to this match are FREE and available at the gate.

Game of the Week: Sonoma County Sol vs. Anahuac FC

When: Wednesday May 10, 7:00 p.m.

Where: Elsie Allen High School, Santa Rosa

Competition: U.S. Open Cup

Additional Info: Perennial Open Cup participants Sonoma County Sol, face an unknown in Anahuac FC, a squad out of the UPSL in Las Vegas. The Sol are coached by North Coast FC Director of Competitive Coaching Vinnie Cortezzo, and currently sit in second place in the fourth division NPSL’s Golden Gate Conference with a 2-1-2 record. The winner of this match faces Sacramento Republic FC. Tickets are available at the gate.

College Game of the Week: UC Davis vs. Stanford

When: Saturday May 13, 4:00 p.m.

Where: Aggie Soccer Field, Davis

Competition: College Spring Season

Additional Info: Playing in or watching our State Cup semifinals this weekend at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex? Make sure to stop by Aggie Soccer Field afterwards to watch UC Davis take on the two-time defending NCAA national champions in Stanford. Tickets are $5 and available at the gate.
