U15-U19 NorCal State Cup Semifinals Preview

Just two matchdays remain in the U15-U19 NorCal State Cup, with the first kicking off this weekend at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex and Turlock Regional Sports Complex in what’s expected to be another exciting day of knockout round soccer.

While the U13 and U14 age groups finished up play back in April, the oldest age groups now head to the semifinals, with a win earning each team a spot at Finals Weekend, set for May 31 and June 1 at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.

“It’s been a long, but fun, season for all of these older teams,” said NorCal State Cup Coordinator Brian Voltattorni. “Those still alive have truly had to grind to get here, but for those who do end up as champions, it will be a season they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.”

“The level of competition this year has been excellent,” Voltattorni added. “We’ve seen a bunch of games go down to the wire and are looking forward to another great round of games this Saturday at two beautiful facilities.”

In a competition that started with thousands of teams all the way back in the fall–the NorCal Premier Soccer State Cup is the largest in the country–just 160 teams remain in contention to win 40 different titles.

In order to reach the semifinals, most teams have had to win three different games in the knockout rounds, starting with round of 32 and round 16 matches that were hosted by the higher seed.

From there, games began taking place at neutral venues for the quarterfinals, which took place on April 27 and 28 in Davis and Turlock.

NorCal Matchday has previewed several of the games in the State Division, which can be found here.
