U14-U19 NorCal State Cup: Round of 16
With the NorCal Premier Soccer’s State Cup going down to the wire, thousands packed the Turlock Sports Complex this past weekend as teams fought through tough Round of 16 games for the right to advance to April 27th and 28th’s quarterfinals at the Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.
In what was an exciting weekend for all, there were goals, saves, penalty shootouts, and plenty of drama at the beautiful nine-field complex in Turlock.
It appears as if there has been more parity in this year’s State Cup as no club sent more than four sides to the quarterfinals, led by Marin FC and Santa Clara Sporting, who each advanced four clubs.
On the boys side of the action, San Juan Soccer Club and Atletico Santa Rosa led the way with three teams apiece winning their Round of 16 matchups. Clubs with two sides left include Palo Alto SC, Sacramento United, Santa Clara Sporting, and San Francisco Glens. Several title defenses are still up for grabs as Manteca SC (U15), California Odyssey (U17), and Santa Clara Sporting (U19) all remain in the competition and will have a good shot at winning in consecutive years.
Girls Pictures
For the girls, Marin FC have been the standout club, with four sides surviving through to the quarterfinals, while Clovis Crossfire advanced three teams and San Francisco Elite, Modesto Ajax, and Santa Clara Sporting each saw a pair of clubs live to fight another day. Amazingly, every defending champion is still alive as the U15 and U19 Marin squads, U16 Central California Soccer Alliance team, and the U17 Vision side have all made it to this stage of the competition.
