Clovis Crossfire Win National Cup Title

Just a month after prevailing in the NorCal State Cup final, the 2007 Clovis Crossfire boys earned the right to call themselves national champions after winning the U16 Boys Super Division at the US Club Soccer National Cup Finals in Colorado.

After making quick work of their group stage opponents in which Crossfire won all three games while scoring seven goals and allowing just two, the Central Californian side won via a 1-0 scoreline in the semifinals before downing Manta United Soccer Club of Ohio 2-1 in the final.

“It’s a great accomplishment, this team has won two of the last three State Cup championships and have cemented themselves as a top team in the nation now,” said Clovis Head Coach Shawn Grieco. “I think it shows, not only to our community and the area, but now the nation, what is transpiring at our club.”

“It’s a statement that the Central Valley has a ton of talented soccer players who can compete and play at the highest level,” Grieco added. “I think it also sheds a light on what we are trying to accomplish at our club and not only compete at the national level, but do so by playing our brand of soccer.”

The National Cup title is the first for any team from Clovis Crossfire, and came in style after the club didn’t trail in any of their first four games.

In the final, though, Manta United went ahead early in the second half before Jayden Reynolds and Brayden Garcia each scored to give Clovis a 2-1 victory.

“I just want to thank the families, players, and community for all the support given to this team and club, without the support, none of this would be possible,” Grieco said. “Thank you to NorCal and US Club Soccer for providing the platforms for these kids to showcase their talents at the highest level.”
