2023 U14-U19 #NorCalStateCup Finals State Division Recap

Just 20 teams remain in the State Division of the NorCal State Cup and by the end of the weekend, just 10 will stand as champions of the entire State.

Over two days at Cosumnes River College, girls and boys teams from the U14-U19 divisions will contest finals in what’s the culmination of a competition that started all the way back last August.

Recordings of each of the games can be found here.

Here are your State Division recaps:

U14

U14 Girls State Final
6/3San Juan South
1-0
Stanislaus United
The first girls State Division final of the weekend was a defensive slugfest, with chances coming few and far between for both San Juan South and Stanislaus United. South's Addyson Soulier made the difference as her 28th minute strike helped her club take home the title as Stanislaus was held at bay by a strong San Juan back line.
U14 Boys State Final
6/3Turlock Academica Jrs
0-5
South Valley Chivas
South Valley Chivas continued their free scoring ways, putting five in the back of the net against Turlock Academica Jrs to win the State Division title. Christopher Salazar Martin scored the eventual game winner just 25 minutes into the match before Damian Olivian added a brace to go along with tallies from Joshua Montoya and Jose Herrera-Valdez.

U15

U15 Girls State Final
6/3North Coast FC
0-3
Stanislaus United
For much of the first half, neither North Coast FC nor Stanislaus United could find an opening and it wasn't until first half stoppage time that the first goal was scored. Caelan Lane scored, taking a feed off of a corner kick before Stanislaus doubled their advantage in the second half thanks to an own goal. The Central Californian side sealed the win late in the game as Genasey Agustin chipped the keeper from long range to make it 3-0.
U15 Boys State Final
6/3Association Football Club
3-3 (4-3 on kicks from the mark)
Clovis Crossfire
In an absolutely wild final, Association Football Club and Clovis Crossfire exchanged goals throughout regular time before AFC prevailed on penalties to take home the State Cup title. Jayden Fitzgerald Boes opened up the scoring for AFC before Angel Cervantes Castillo leveled the match just before halftime. In the second half, Maxwell Colley and Noah Naranjo each hit for a brace to send the game to overtime.

U16

U16 Girls State Final
6/4IR Academy
1-0
MVLA
Chances were few and far between in this State Division final between IR Academy and MVLA, as the former picked up a 1-0 win to lift their fourth State Cup title. But it initially looked as if MVLA could take home the trophy as they hit the crossbar early in the second half before the game went to overtime. Four minutes into the extra period, Avery Tracy scored for IR Academy in what was the only goal of the match for either side.
U16 Boys State Final
6/4Clovis Crossfire
1-0
TSP FC
In this defensive slugfest, just one goal made the difference as Clovis Crossfire narrowly edged out TSP FC for the U16 State Cup title. Thirteen minutes into the match, Noah Naranjo scored in his second final in two days, helping his side take home the prize one day after his younger squad were edged in penalties.

U17

U17 Girls State Final
6/4Blackhawks SC
0-2
Marin FC
Marin FC bookended the U17 Girls State Cup final with goals, scoring one early and one late to down Blackhawks SC via a 2-0 scoreline. The first goal came on an own goal in the 11th minute after Dakota Ledesma's corner kick was put into a dangerous area. The Bay Area club then iced the game seven minutes from time thanks to a solo run from Isabella Ong in which she beat several defenders before coolly finishing in the back of the net.
U17 Boys State Final
6/4Palo Alto SC
4-1
Elk Grove Soccer
Despite Artem Vovk's goal just three minutes into the game for Elk Grove Soccer, Palo Alto SC were able to come back and win the U17 Boys State Cup via a 4-1 scoreline. Midway through the first half, Andre Gonzalez Lombera equalized from the spot before Albrecht Tripukait Canalaes scored to give Palo Alto the lead. Elk Grove then went down to 10 men thanks to a red card, leaving more space for Canales and Andres Moreno to each score and ice the game.

U19

U19 Girls State Final
6/4West Coast Soccer
1-2
Diablo Valley Wolves
It took just eight minutes for West Coast Soccer to take the lead against Diablo Valley Wolves, but ultimately Diablo would come out on top with a 2-1 comeback win in the U19 Girls State Cup final. Niella Sessoms opened the scoring for West Coast before Addison Bailey got in behind and fired a shot into the lower corner to equalize. The game remained deadlocked until the 81st minute when Giulia Salemme provided a clean finish to score the winning goal of the match.
U19 Boys State Final
6/4Revolution FC
3-1
Sacramento United
It wasn't until Revolution FC was down a man and a goal that the floodgates opened in a 3-1 comeback victory over Sacramento United. After Anthony Barajas put United on the board 17 minutes in and Revolution were reduced to 10 men, the Bay Area club equalized from the penalty spot in the 48th minute. Ernesto Martinez Estrada sent the Sacramento keeper the wrong way before Gabriel Juarez's header put Revolution up in the 56th minute. United then also had a player sent off before Rahim Qiyami secured the result for Revolution with a stoppage time goal.
