NorCal Matchday #12

While there are plenty of top level league matches and State Cup knockout round games taking place this weekend, perhaps no part of NorCal’s competition system has a more important slate than those taking part in the U9 and U10 State Cup. After teams fought through quarterfinal play the past few matchdays, they’re onto the semifinals and finals this weekend, which will take place at two different locations all throughout the state.

Here are your NorCal Premier Soccer games of the week:

U9 Girls State Division
11/9Mustang SC
9:25 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 11
Placer United
Both Mustang SC and Placer United topped their respective groups in the second phase of the competition, racking up 9 points each on the way to the quarterfinals. While Placer United knocked off their opponents via a 4-0 scoreline to reach the semis, Mustang edged out a tough Santa Clara Sporting team via a 3-2 scoreline. Expect lots of goals in this game--both teams have hit the back of the net more than 20 times in their past four State Cup games.
U9 Girls State Division
11/9Elk Grove Soccer
9:25 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 12
Modesto Ajax United
A pair of free scoring sides, Elk Grove Soccer and Modesto Ajax United enter their semifinal matchup having scored at least six goals in each of their last four games. Both sides breezed through the second group stage, hitting the back of the net more than 30 times in three games before facing closer matchups in the quarterfinals.
U10 Boys State Division
11/9California Odyssey
10:35 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 11
Marin FC
After drawing their first match in the second group stage, California Odyssey regrouped and pulled out three straight victories in wild games to reach the semifinals. Scorelines like 9-5 and 5-3 appear normal for Odyssey, who will now face a tough Marin FC side standing in their way of the final. Marin's path to the semis was somewhat less stressful as the Bay Area side won three of their last four matches by three more more goals, the last of which was a 4-1 victory over MVLA.
U10 Boys State Division
11/9Merced United
10:35 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 12
CV Futbol Academy
Both Merced United and CV Futbol Academy cruised through the second group stage and quarterfinal rounds of the competition, winning a perfect eight games out of eight between the two. And both teams have reached this phase of the competition in style, combining for 40 goals scored and just six allowed up to this point.
U9 Boys State Division
11/10De Anza Force
9:10 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 11
Marin FC
After starting the second group phase of State Cup out with a scoreless draw, De Anza Force haven't been able to stop scoring goals since. In three matches following that tie, De Anza have put 23 goals in the back of the net, including eight in a quarterfinal blowout. In the semifinals, they'll face a Marin FC squad that has been especially good at preventing goals--Marin have allowed just four strikes in their last four State Cup matches.
U9 Boys State Division
11/10ECFC Salinas
9:10 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 12
Walnut Creek Surf
After starting out strong in the second group phase, ECFC Salinas won their group thanks to a tiebreaker, finishing with seven points before knocking off MVLA 4-1 in the quarterfinals. Their next matchup will be a tough one, as they face a Walnut Creek Surf side that has scored 33 goals in their last four games, including nine in a quarterfinal victory against Santa Clara Sporting.
U10 Girls State Division
11/10CV Futbol Academy
10:20 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 12
Santa Clara Sporting
Despite finishing second in their group during the second group phase of the competition, CV Futbol Academy reached the semifinals after knocking off a tough Lodi FC team by a solitary goal in the semifinals. They'll look to continue the recent success seen by their club at this age group, but will face a difficult Santa Clara Sporting team in the semifinals. Sporting have been absolutely clinical in this competition, winning each of their last four games by at least a two goal margin.
U10 Girls State Division
11/10Placer United
10:20 a.m. @ Davis Legacy Field 13
Modesto Ajax United
Placer United began the second group stage of State Cup with some close results, winning 3-2 before drawing 2-2 last Saturday. However, it was on Sunday that they turned a corner, winning their two games by a combined 10 goals to reach the semifinals. In the semifinals, they'll meet Modesto Ajax United, who had a similarly close Saturday before scoring 11 goals on Sunday to reach this stage of the competition.
