NorCal to Host id2 Selection Event Sunday

This Sunday, US Club Soccer and NorCal Premier Soccer will co-host the latest id2 Selection Event, an invite-only combine designed to identify the top talents from around the United States.

Overall 36 girls and 33 boys born in 2009 were chosen to showcase their skills in front of high-level talent evaluators at San Juan Field Complex in Rancho Cordova.

“id2 has been an important part of the player identification pathway since its inception over a decade ago,” said NorCal Premier Soccer President Benjamin Ziemer. “This is a fantastic opportunity for players to represent their clubs and PDP in front of the national id2 staff as they attempt to show they belong at the national camps, as well as on the id2 international trips.”

Each of the 69 youngsters will be vying for inclusion at February’s id2 West National Training Camp, with the best of those possibly earning a spot on the National Selection Team, which will travel internationally for a series of games in April.

This is the first time that US Club Soccer will take a team abroad since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and though the location hasn’t been announced yet, past destinations include Argentina, Belgium, England, Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Scotland, and Spain.

Founded in 2004, the id2 Program has helped the United States National Team programs find some of its future great players including Tyler Adams, Lindsey Horan, Catarina Macario, and Christian Pulisic.

Sunday’s Selection Event represents the first step for those hoping to reach the same lofty heights as those aforementioned players and many more.
