Valley Selection Tops Bay 2-1 in Girls Showcase All-Star Game

Playing in the first-ever NorCal Premier Soccer Girls College Showcase All-Star Game, the Central Valley Selection topped the Bay Area side via a 2-1 scoreline Saturday night at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex.

“For the second weekend in a row, our Showcase All-Star Game proved a massive success,” said NPL Commissioner Kelcey Chaidez. “There was a definite buzz around the field the whole time and our girls were proud to represent their side in the first of what is sure to be many high-level matchups.”

In a match that featured 52 of the best high school juniors and seniors in Northern California, Rachel Davis put Valley up early. The Union Sacramento FC player took a feed from California Odyssey’s Taylor Avila to give her side a 1-0 lead.

But the Bay side fought back and equalized in the first half when Pajaro Valley United’s Sophia Martel got on the end of a pass from Burlingame SC’s Madison Donati to level the scoreline.

“I feel really grateful for this opportunity, to expose myself to the college coaches and play with my team,” Martel said.

With the second half switching to play between the senior part of the selections, Valley found a late winner through a pair of Region 6 players.

Sacramento United’s Mylee Yuill found Elk Grove Soccer’s Amanda Go to finish the scoring on the night and help Valley avenge the prior weekend’s loss on the boys side.

“We can’t wait to host more of these All-Star games for the Spring Showcase,” Chaidez said. “We couldn’t have asked for a better two first games than we had these past two weekends.”
