Thousands of players from hundreds of teams gathered this past weekend for the NorCal Spring College Showcase in which more than 100 college coaches scouted their next stars as a series of exciting league games and friendlies were played at Davis Legacy Soccer Complex on Saturday and Sunday.

While much of the action surrounded the conclusion of the tight NPL Champions League and ECNL-RL races, there were also participating teams from the State Premier League, ECNL, MLS Next, and Girls Academy League.

Each team came from the U16-U19 age groups, with six of those earning coveted championship rings on stage after winning NorCal’s highest levels of play.

“This latest showcase proved to be an incredibly exciting event as most of our top divisions went down to the wire,” said NPL Commissioner Kelcey Chaidez. “The level of play was excellent and there was a huge contingent of college coaches out here scouting, even in the late hours of the day both days.”

Overall, roughly 130 college coaches attended, with some coming from as far as the East Coast for an event that has been a staple on their yearly calendars.

“This is the place to come, probably our best player from our 2024 class was identified here over a year ago,” said University of San Francisco Assistant Coach Sam Reynolds. “It’s a great place to find the diamonds in the rough and also the elite players everyone already knows about.”

“These are probably the best fields and the best facilities in Northern California, which just equals better play,” Reynolds said. “When you’re playing on a great surface, the games are going to be a higher quality and closer to the collegiate level. The value that NorCal brings in identifying players (is huge), whether that’s through PDP, or watching games in the Champions League, there’s elite talent everywhere.”

Additionally, NorCal hosted a selection from Hawaiian Football, a budding federation that plans to build out to a full National Team made up of players native to the islands. This past weekend, they fielded one boys and one girls team in the U16 age groups, coached by former NorCal PDP Head Scout Ian Mork.

“We would like to mahalo NorCal and Davis Legacy for the use of their facility, Ron Benjamin, Benjamin Ziemer, Shawn Blakeman, Dan Chamberlain, all the faces I’ve not put with names after hearing their stories,” said Hawai’i Football Founder and CEO Vernon Kapua’ala. “I just want to mahalo them for hosting and being so gracious and accommodating.”
