NPL National Finals Preview: U-15 Lamorinda United
Having won the NPL Champions League with a perfect 7-0-0 record one month before capturing the State Cup title as well, Lamorinda United have as good of a chance as any in capturing the NPL National Title this week in Indianapolis.
Featuring a strong attack that banged in 19 goals and a stingy defense that allowed just 4, Lamorinda had one of the best goal differentials in any Champions League for any age group this spring and head into this fixture loaded with confidence even if they hadn’t specifically planned to be there.
“Preparing for this tournament can be tricky, it was not on our radar prior to May,” said Lamorinda head coach Billal Samy. “NPL Nationals comes at a time where we usually begin our preseason training.”
For Samy, although he and his squad would love to capture the title, the competition will be more than just about the results on the field.
“At the very minimum we will be playing some really competitive matches, which is always great,” the coach said. “The players are ambitious and excited but overcoming personal barriers and dealing with external circumstances will be a challenge in all matches.
“If we reach our individual and collective objectives, the results will follow,” he added. “Regardless of the outcome, we are honored to travel to Indiana and represent NorCal.”
Lamorinda kicks of their first game Thursday at 1:00 p.m. local time against MSC 02 Lakers Elite. Their full schedule can be viewed here.
