NPL Matchday #8
The halfway point of October is here and with it comes NPL Matchday #8 as teams from all across the state are searching for three valuable points in NorCal’s most competitive league. While no titles have been clinched yet, this weekend will go a long way towards teams solidifying their shot at either winning their league or moving into one of the spots to qualify for the spring’s Champions League.
Here are your NPL games of the week:
U14 Girls NPL Capitol
San Juan South SC 2 – San Juan SC 0
Goalscorers: Barajas (2)
League leaders San Juan SC South met against their northern rivals in San Juan SC this past weekend with both sides coming into the match with a perfect record. It was South, though, who left with the victory, as a pair of goals from Alessandra Barajas helped improve the hosts to 6-0-0 in U14 NPL Capitol play. Barajas scored just 12 minutes into the match before sealing the game with a far post free kick just 18 minutes from time.
U17 Boys NPL West
San Francisco Elite Academy – 1974 Newark FC
Saturday, 10/15 12:45 p.m. @ Franklin Square
This weekend’s titanic U17 Boys NPL West matchup pits first-place against second as San Francisco Elite Academy host 1974 Newark FC. Newark currently stand on top of the table with five wins from five games in which they’ve scored 31 goals. Meanwhile, San Francisco Elite are six points behind 1974 but have played two fewer games. The winner of this matchup will head into the stretch run of the season as the title favorite.
U16 Boys NPL South
TSP FC – South Valley United
Saturday, 10/15 3:00 p.m. @ Turlock Sports Park 8 – Field 3
In Saturday’s Central Valley matchup between TSP FC and South Valley United, both sides have plenty to play for in what appears to be a three-team title race. While IR Academy currently sit on top of the table with 15 points, they have played one more game than either TSP or South Valley. The former side have 13 points and could move ahead of IR with a win, while South Valley have 10 points and would become level with TSP with a victory. Last month, the two sides played to a 2-2 draw.
U15 Girls NPL North
San Francisco Vikings 3 – North Coast FC 3
Goalscorers:
San Francisco: Miller (2), McCormick
North Coast: Tufo, Sarno, Guerrero.
The only two unbeaten teams in the U15 Girls NPL West coming into the weekend stayed the only two unbeaten teams following the conclusion of league play on NPL Matchday #8. The San Francisco Vikings currently sit atop the table and looked to be on their way to all three points Saturday when Phoebe Miller scored in the seventh minute before Teagan McCormick doubled the home lead in the 59th. However, North Coast roared back into the game, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead behind strikes from Jenna Tufo, Makena Sarno, and Bailey Guerrero. However a late Miller goal tied the scoreline and gave each team one point. The two sides currently sit in first and second in the league.
