NPL Matchday #6

There are just weeks left until NorCal Premier Soccer’s highly-anticipated Spring College Showcase, and in the National Premier League, the action is truly heating up. There are now clear-cut favorites to win the prestigious Boys Champions League and Girls ECNL-RL titles, with this weekend’s action proving imperative for teams’ title chances.

Here are your NPL games of the week:

U19 Boys Champions League

Walnut Creek Surf – Blues FC

Saturday, 5/6 11:30 a.m. @ Arbolado – WC Arbolado 1

With every team in the U19 Boys Champions League having dropped points at least twice, the title race is wide open — there are four teams within two points of each other at the top of the table. Two of those teams are Walnut Creek Surf and Blues FC, who both have compiled nine points, though Blues have played one fewer game. If there’s a winner this weekend, they’ll have a chance to move into first place in the division.

U16 Girls ECNL-RL

Folsom Lake Surf – San Juan SC

Saturday, 5/6 12:30 p.m. @ Econome Family Park – Econome Turf

This local derby between Folsom Lake Surf and San Juan SC comes in the middle of a title race in which the top six teams in the U16 Girls ECNL-RL can legitimately say they have a chance of finishing on top. Hosts Folsom Lake Surf currently have six points from five games, but have lost just once on the season. Meanwhile, San Juan SC make the short drive to Folsom with three more points than their opponents, but one more loss.

U15 Boys Champions League

Turlock Academica Jrs 1 – Association Football Club 3

Goalscorers:

AFC: Becerra, de la O, Hamp

Turlock: Maciel

Association Football Club traveled down south to Turlock to take on Academica Jrs and came away with all three points after a dramatic comeback win that put them in the driver’s seat for the U15 Boys Champions League title. Ramzes Maciel opened up the scoring for the hosts, hitting the back of the net in just the second minute before the game would go scoreless for the next 68 minutes. Finally, in the 70th minute, AFC began a flurry of goals that would see them score three in eight minutes through Ediwn Becerra, John de la O, and timothy Hamp.

U14 Girls ECNL-RL

Stanislaus United 0 – Sacramento United 2

Goalscorers:

Sacramento: Taylor, Moore

Sacramento United continued their perfect start to the U14 Girls ECNL-RL season, scoring twice in the first half of a 2-0 victory at Stanislaus United. Keira Taylor scored first for the visitors, knocking home a deflected cross in the 29th minute, before Rhea Moore hit the back of the net 10 minutes later after taking a feed from Maycee Kirby. The victory gave Sacramento 15 points from five games.
