NPL Matchday #5

As the season is nearing to an end, points were at a premium during NPL Matchday #5, with squads from all across the state fighting hard to make sure that they’re in contention for the title during the closing portions of spring.

Here are your NPL games of the week:

U17 Boys Champions League

San Jose Surf 4 – Stanford SC 2

Goalscorers:

San Jose: Gonzalez (2), Anaya, Juarez

Stanford: Aharon, Yusuf

Despite allowing the first goal of the game, San Jose Surf continued their perfect run in the U17 Boys Champions League, defeating Stanford SC via a 4-2 scoreline. After Jonathan Aharon put the visitors up 20 minutes in, Surf leveled the game and then took the lead heading into halftime thanks to strikes from Mateo Anaya and Rolando Gonzalez. While Stanford were able to tie things up in the 60th minute through Adam Yusuf, Christopher Juarez scored the eventual winner in the 75th minute before Gonzalez completed his brace to seal the result shortly thereafter.

U15 Boys Champions League

South Valley United 3 – Clovis Crossfire 2

Goalscorers:

South Valley: See, Victorino, Caballero

Clovis: Slaven, Valencia

While South Valley United have played the fewest games of any team in the U15 Boys Champions League so far, they continued their perfect run Saturday in an exciting win over local rivals Clovis Crossfire. Thanks to an early goal from Jonathan See and strikes on either side of halftime from Cesar Victorino and Matthew Caballero, SVU took a 3-0 lead. Clovis attempted a late comeback, scoring through Cristiano Slaven and Sergio Valencia, but South Valley held on to earn their sixth point in just two games.

U14 Girls ECNL Regional League

Walnut Creek Surf 1 – Stanislaus United 4

Goalscorers:

Stanislaus: Alcala (2), Farmer, Kroutil

Walnut Creek: Allakhverdijev

Stanislaus United have spent the entire fall and spring NPL seasons dominating teams, so it was no surprise when they came out to an early 3-0 lead, even against third-place Walnut Creek Surf. United would eventually close the contest at 4-1 and continue to remain at the top of the table. Kylie Farmer scored for Stanislaus just two minutes in before Valeria Alcala scored a pair three minutes apart. While Walnut Creek’s Anya Allakhverdijev pulled one back in the 31st minute, Kaiya Kroutil sealed the deal for Stanislaus in the 73rd.

U15 Girls ECNL Regional League

Placer United 1 – IR Academy 2

While neither Placer United or IR Academy occupy the first two places in the U15 Girls ECNL Regional League, both are just on the outside looking in, making this weekend’s matchup crucial if either are to get back in the title race. IR have the slight advantage with nine points from four games, while Placer have managed seven from four. Given that the two have combined for 23 goals in their eight matches, expect a back-and-forth tilt with lots of scoring.
